AROUND AUSTRALIA 2007With Geoff, June, Greg & Vicki |
| Day 1 Saturday 12 May ‘07 What a great start to our trip, we are so excited I thought it would never come around. Greg and I drove to Geoff and Junes. When we arrived there Lex and Janelle were there to see the four of us off. They are such a lovely couple and they also put together a goodie bag to nibble along the way. After some pictures it was time to leave. A good run and our first stop was Dalby for a quick morning tea and then off to Miles for lunch. After seeing a lot of the country side we arrived at Mitchell where we were stopping for the night, some 570km. We unpacked the cars then down to the Great Artesian Spa to soak the weary bodies for about an hour. When we arrived back to our rooms we got changed for dinner across the road to the Court House Pub for dinner and a drink. Then an early night as we were all a bit tired. |
Day 2 Sunday 13 May’07![]() After a good nights sleep we departed Mitchell and headed off to Longreach, where a kangaroo jumped out in front of our car, what a close call. Geoff’s car was using a lot of fuel compared to ours so we stopped at Augathella for morning tea and a tinker in the car, fuel was leaking out of the back carby, so a quick fix and we were back on the road again. It was raining most of the day (yes real rain) and we then arrived at Blackall for lunch and then back on the road. As we were driving down the road approx 75 mph Geoff in front an emu ran across the road between both cars, I’m not sure if he was lucky or we were. We stopped at Barcaldine to look at the Tree of Knowledge and the Worker’s Museum. We then arrived at Longreach approx 5.00pm and 615km later. After a nice dinner at the motel restaurant and good company we retired for the night. |
| Day 3 Monday 14 May’07 Greg and I got up bright and early for a walk and to take some photos, we have a full day in Longreach. After breakfast the four of us headed off to the QANTAS Museum for a look and a tour of the 747. Very interesting, more photos and approx three hours later it was time to visit the Stockman’s Hall of Fame. At 2.00pm it was back to the motel to take a look at Geoff’s carbies again and to seal our windscreen as it leaked badly yesterday in the rain. Greg and I then went for a look at the main street and had to have a coffee and cake as we missed out on lunch, time just keeps getting away from us, as there is just to much to see and do. It has now turned out quite warm so a cold drink will be nice. We all went to the RSL for dinner and a quiet drink, then back to our rooms for the night (not much night life here). ![]() |
| Day 4 Tuesday 15 May ‘07 Geoff and Greg got up for a very early morning walk, then after breakfast we took the cars to the Stockman’s Hall of Fame for some photo’s before we departed Longreach at 8.00am. The sun shining what a beautiful morning (we need at least another day here, but we must push on). First stop Winton for fuel and morning tea at the Waltzing Matilda Centre. The weather is now heating up and uncomfortable for traveling, but we have to travel 640km today so we must keep going. We reached Kynuna for an ice block and a quick stretch, back in the car to McKinlay where we stopped to look in the Walkabout pub, have some lunch and fuel the cars. We have passed a lot of road trains today. It is now 2.00pm and we still have about two and a half hours of traveling to reach Mt Isa before dark. The country side has now changed to very hilly as we got closer Mt Isa. As soon as we unpacked the cars it was straight into the pool to cool off. Greg and I decided on fish and chips in our room. Geoff and June were able to catch up with a family friend. ![]() |
| Day 5 Wednesday 16 May’07 We departed Mt Isa at 7.40am, what a beautiful day. We have to travel 662km today, I hope it’s cooler than yesterday. Geoff is traveling with no speedo, no UHF (forgot to charge it) and a rattley exhaust. Who would have known that these things are only minor compared to what was going to happen to our car! The country side past Mt Isa is very flat and quite thick scrub. Our first stop is Camooweal for fuel and morning tea. The weather has cooled right down. Then about 3 hours out from Mt Isa and an hour from Camooweal the car did a rear axle bearing, it was now 11.00am. Greg drove Geoff’s car with June back to Camooweal to see if he could find somewhere that might have a press other wise they would have to go back to Mt Isa. Geoff stayed with me on the side of the road. Greg ended up making a tool in the RACQ workshop and managed to change the bearing. Greg and June returned to us at 3.30pm put it all back together. We don’t have any rear brakes but we could live with that, so we were back on the road around 4.00pm. A quick stop at Barkley Homestead for fuel and we continued driving with still 2 _ hours to drive before we reach Tennant Creek for the night. We arrived at 8.15pm, all exhausted! ![]() |
| Day 6 17 May’07 Late start to leave, looking for spare parts shop but no luck. We have to travel 567km today to Mataranka, it’s now 9.30 am and it seems to be a much cooler day. We stopped at 10.30am for morning tea at Renner Springs and then a quick stop at Elliott to re-fuel. We then drove to Dunmarra for fuel and lunch, not much traffic on the road today. The weather has now warmed up and we arrived at Mataranka for the night. We quickly got changed into our bathers and straight down to the thermal pool. This area was hit badly by the floods last year and is still a mess. After a good soak we got changed for dinner and listened to a local guitarist, he was very good. ![]() |
Day 7 18 May ‘07![]() It was 6.00am and Greg went for a swim in the thermal pool on his own, it was still dark and his story of the snake kept everyone else away until light. We all had breakfast and then departed at 8.00am to Timber Creek for the night some 570km. We stopped at Cutta Cutta Caves for a tour then departed at 10.30. We arrived at Katherine at 10.50am had a quick look , some lunch then departed at 12.30, the weather has really warmed up now. We had another stop at Victoria River for a cold drink, the scenery is beautiful around this area and then on our way to Timber Creek for the night. We arrived at 3.50pm, time for us girls to relax and the boy’s to tinker on the cars. |
| Day 8 19 May ‘07 We departed Timber Creek at 7.00am as we had a 579km drive today to reach Halls Creek. When we left in the morning June was at the wheel and drove first up, there was a lot of Kangaroos on the road. We then stopped for a few photo’s at Victoria River and then we were on our way again. We arrived at the W.A. boarder at 9.30am N.T. time and now we have to turn the clocks back, so it is now 8.00am. We then continued to Lake Argyle for a look, a few photos and some morning tea, what a very big lake. The scenery is absolutely beautiful but it was time to drive on to Kununurra after having some lunch and a look at the Argyle diamond shop at 12.20. We stopped at Turkey Creek for afternoon tea. Well; what a drive, when we left there I think Geoff was trying to run down the cows on the road and after that he managed to wash the bottom of his car as we had to drive through a flooded road. Then when we were getting close to Halls Creek we caught up to a police car. I think they had already heard on the grape vine about Geoff, so they seemed to escort him into town (ha! ha!), oh what a day.

| Day 9 20 May’07 It was time to leave Halls Creek, an early departure at 6.00 as we had a lot of kilometers to cover today to reach Broome. A lovely morning drive but this part of the country is quite boring. With only a quick stop on the side of the road for a cuppa then it was time to drive again. We stopped at Willare for fuel and lunch then continued on with still 169km to go. We arrived at Cable Beach around 2.00pm, our room is very nice and then it was straight into the pool for a swim. We are here for two nights so we can now sit back and relax. ![]() |
| Day 10 21 May’07 Up at 5.45am for a morning walk along Cable beach, Geoff and Greg continued on and walked for two hours. I on the other hand only walked for approx _ hour. We all had breakfast and then spent the day sight seeing for the day in Broome (hooray). We visited the Pearl Luggage and spent an hour on the tour, it was very interesting. Then continued our look around and had some lunch, then returned back to the motel at Cable Beach and went for a swim in the pool. It was now 4.00pm and we went down to the beach where we were booked to ride the camels along the beach at sun set, it was fantastic and we all enjoyed the experience. Later that night we drove to Zanders for a sea food dinner, then back to our shared unit for drinks, cheese, biscuits and a glass of wine. What a lovely day and a fantastic stay in Broome.
![]() |
| Day 11 22 May ‘07 It was time to depart Cable Beach for Port Headland, some 610km and what a beautiful morning. At 9.00am we had a quick road stop for morning tea and then we were back on our way. We then stopped at Sandfire for fuel, the roadhouse had burned down some six weeks earlier but we could still get fuel there. Our next stop was Padoo where we had coffee and fruit salad. The weather is now very hot and dry. We arrived at Port headland at 4.00pm to find that the accommodation that was booked was only portables the size of a bathroom and with only a single bed. We decided that we could not stay there se we drove another 239km to Karratha and we arrived there at 6.00pm. After unpacking the car’s we went next door for some dinner and at 8.00pm and still no dinner we walked out and were past being hungry, so we just went to bed. What a bad hair day. ![]() |
| Day 12 23 May ‘07 7.30am we departed Karratha for Coral Bay. We traveled to Dampier on our way out to have a look, a very nice little town. Just a roadhouse stop today for lunch at Nanutarra, then it was my turn to drive into Coral Bay and we arrived at 3.00pm. After unpacking the cars Greg went into the pool for a quick swim, the water was very cool. June and I decided that it was time for happy hour and sat out by the pool. As we sat across Coral Bay we watched the sun set and then we sat outside and had sea food dinner. What a lovely end to the day. After dinner we all sat for a while and had more drinks and biscuits. ![]() |
| Day 13 24 May’07 Greg awoke and went for a walk at 5.30am in the dark and when he returned we had breakfast out by the pool. We decided to go out on the glass bottom boat at 9.30am to look at the reef and feed the fish. When we returned we went for a walk to check out the few shops that were there and have a coffee (lots of coffee breaks). Geoff, Greg and myself went to the beach for a swim, the fish were swimming around us. Then we went for a walk around the bay. We returned to our rooms for a bit of a sleep then Geoff and Greg went and hired out a glass bottom kiak for an hour. I took some photos and it was then time for happy hour, relax and watch the sun set. We had a lovely seafood buffet then took a walk down the street for coffee and cake. I would have liked to stay a few more days here but we must leave in the morning. ![]() |
| Day 14 25 May’07 We departed Coral Bay at 7.05am and what a lovely morning. ( a few more days would have been great, oh well the boys keep saying ‘next time’) First stop was Canarvon at 10.00am for morning tea. We have seen a lot of feral goats and a fox along the road side this morning. We then stopped at the Overlander for fuel and some lunch. It was now time to hit the road again. The scenery has been very rocky and dense on the way to Kalbarri also several fires on our left as we drove into town. After we unpacked the cars (how unusual) we went and had a coffee along the water front at around 4.00pm. It’s a bit cool now so while we went to our rooms to get ready to find somewhere for dinner, Greg went for a walk and took some photos. At 6.30pm we wandered down to the local tavern for dinner, a very nice meal. Then of cause it was time for bed. ![]() |
| Day 15 26 May’07 It was 7.30am and time to depart Kalbarri. On the way Geoff decided to have a race with a kangaroo on the road and it was raining a good part of the day and cold. We stopped and looked at the HMAS Sydney11 memorial for about _ hour, very interesting tour at Geraldon. We stopped at Leehman and had a quick lunch, then it was back into the cars where we drove straight through to Perth and arrived at Freemantle around 4.45pm. When we got settled into our rooms we walked down the street and had dinner at Joe’s fish and chips. ![]() |
| Day 16 27 May’07 5.30am Greg went for a walk then we had breakfast at 7.30am and made our plans for the day. The four of us caught the free City Cat Bus and took a look around Freemantle. We then went and looked at the Maritime Museum and took a tour through a Navel Submarine, excellent guide. Greg, Geoff and June then took a look at a car display while I checked out some of the local market. Afterwards Greg and I took another look around the shops and buildings as we walked back to our room. For dinner we all walked down the main road and had dinner at a pizza café. We were all a bit tired as we did a lot of walking today. ![]() |
| Day 17 28 May’07 This morning the boys tinkered with the cars for a while to tighten everything up that may have come loose. Then at 10.30am we boarded the river cruise boat to take us into Perth a 1 _ hour ride. We then took a bus trip around Perth to have a look. At 2.00pm we all decided it was time to have some lunch, then it was a walk to the train station to catch the train back to Freemantle. The days just get away from you. It was a quick _ hour rest then at 5.45pm we drove to Steve and Alison’s where they had arranged for some of the car club members in W.A. to catch up with us and have dinner. We had a lovely evening and of cause the boys all had to go out in the cold to see what was under the hoods of the cars. Steve also showed us his collection of cast models, excellent. Thank you to them all for their hospitality.

Day 18
29 May’07Greg and I went to breakfast at 7.30am while Geoff took June to the dentist for 8.00am visit. Then when Geoff returned Greg took a look at Geoff’s car as there was an odd noise. So about 9.30am when June returned from the dentist we both went for a bit of a shop. We stopped at 12.00 for lunch. While we were having lunch we contacted the boys and they had just finished the car so they walked down and joined us for some lunch. Once finished the other three returned to where we were staying so I went and visited a few art and wood craft stores. When I returned from shopping, all of us got together to book the next leg of the trips accommodation. Greg and I then went to visit his brother Viv at his place for dinner while Geoff and June caught up with their nephew. We all had a lovely evening. |
| Day 19 30 May’07 We all got up early today and packed the cars before breakfast at 7.30am. After spending four nights in Fremantle, it was time to move on. After breakfast we departed at 8.15am on the road to Margaret River. We had a quick look at the ship that June’s nephew designs and then we were on our way. We stopped at 10.00am for morning tea at Falcon then back into the cars and drove to Busselton where we looked at the Busselton Pier – very long, then had lunch at Equinox Café on the beach front. After a lovely lunch it was back on the road. Our first stop was to look at and visit a light house, but with little time to spare we were unable to wait for the next tour, so a quick look around and back into the cars. As we got closer to the Margaret River there was wineries every where to be seen so we stopped at the Lenton Brae and had a taste and purchased a couple of bottles of wine. From there the next stop was the Cape Lavender Farm where everything was made with lavender so we sampled the lavender scones and lavender cheesecake, they were to die for (yum!!). We also had to buy their chocolates, biscuits and body creams etc. The boys eventually dragged us away and then there was the Margaret River Chocolate Factory, a quick look and sample and we were back in the cars. More tasting of cause and we went to the Gralyn Estate and tasted their white port, pink port also the shiraz port – a must it was lovely port so of cause a few more purchases. There is no more room in the cars to put anything else. So off down the road we drove to our B&B- Rosewood Guest House for the night. After settling in we drove down the street for dinner at D’Vine, a very nice meal. We then returned to the B&B for Port and chocolates in front of the fire place, what an excellent day with good friends. Now we’ve made more room for shopping tomorrow.
![]() |
| Day 20 31 May’07 We all had a beautiful breakfast at the Rosewood B&B, what a lovely place to stay, but it was time to move on so it was then into the cars for fuel and a quick stop to look around town, before heading off to Albany for two nights. First stop a lovely art gallery with very unusual sculptures. The roads were very windy and undulating country side, excellent sports car roads. We then drove into Augusta where we took a tour of the Leeuwin lighthouse, what a beautiful view. After that we stopped in town for some lunch around 1.00pm, a very friendly little place. The day was getting away from us so it was back into the cars as we still had quite a few kilometers to go. Along the way a family of emus crossed the road in front of Geoff, great stopping skills. The country side is so lush and green here (I’m jealous). We arrived at Albany around 6.00pm then went and had some dinner – very nice. After dinner it was port and chocolates back in the room while we watched a photo slide show of the photos we have taken so far, oh so tired and it was then time for bed. ![]() |
| Day 21 1 June’07 This morning we had breakfast in our rooms, then Greg went off at 8.00am to find an electrical technician for the car. After 3 attempts and no luck he returned at 9.15am. We then went to the Whale World museum and had a look around. Geoff and June went and looked at the natural bridge while Greg and I checked out some of the local beaches. We all met up at the wind farm – a very nice view. Then it was back into town to have a look around and some lunch. Greg and I returned to our room where I had a little rest and Greg played with the car for a while before he went for a walk. The weather is very nice at the moment and Albany is a very nice town. Well it’s time for dinner. ![]() |
| Day 22 2 June’07 Today we had a 7.20am departure and before leaving Albany we stopped at Mt Clarence at 7.40am to take photos of some of the cars that were racing in the Albany Classic Hill Climb over this long week end. We were then on our way, with the sun shining but still quite cool. We stopped at Boxwood Roadhouse for morning tea and then at Ravensthorpe for fuel and lunch and then we were back on the road. Only the two stops today as the country side I found a bit boring and very dry. A vast difference to the lush green fields we saw over the past few days. Although once we got closer to Esperence the fields were a bit greener. We arrived at Esperence at 2.30pm, unpacked the cars then went for a look around the town and had coffee. We then made our way back to the rooms to get ready for dinner. Greg disappeared for a walk and went and took photos. We had a lovely dinner in the motel restaurant, then it was off to our rooms for an early night. ![]() |
| Day 23 3 June’07 Up for an early breakfast at 7.15am, then at 8.30am we went off to the information centre and had a look around a local market which was there. We then took a scenic drive along the beautiful beach front and the wind farm; it then started raining so we drove back to the water front tea house for an early lunch at 11.30am. After lunch Greg and I went for another drive but it became very grey and started raining heavy again, so we turned around and went back to our room for a short rest before we had a bus tour of the Esperence Port at 1.30pm. The guide _ Derrik from the Apex Club was very informative. Once we finished our tour at 3.00pm we stopped for coffee at a coffee shop. It has been quite wet and cold most of the day. Once we returned to our rooms it was time for the boys to do car maintenance, as we have a lot of kilometers to cover tomorrow (approx 700km) to Madura. Now time to relax until dinner. ![]() |
| Day 24 4 Jun’07 It’s 7.30am and time to depart Esperence, it appears to be a nice day. We pulled over at 10.00am at Norsman for fuel and morning tea. It wasn’t long after that the weather changed and was bitterly cold and wet on and off for most of the day. At 12.30 we stopped for fuel and lunch at Balladonia then it was onto the 90 mile road, dead straight road with out even a bend. We arrived at Cocklebiddy for another fuel stop at 3.30pm. Still showers of rain while we drove to Madura for the night. We stopped to look at the lookout on the way into town and take some photos. We had an early dinner which we thought quite nice until we saw a dead mouse on the floor just near June’s chair, oh my goodness. Then we had an early night after we had a joke about it.
![]() |
| Day 25 5 Jun ‘07 Another early morning departure, how unusual at 7.30am into the cars as we depart Madura. We have a 770km drive today to reach Streaky Bay. The morning was quite foggy for the first half hour so we took it easy. Luck for us the weather had cleared because not long after a very large kangaroo hopped straight out across the road in front of our car. By the time Greg had hit the brakes we missed the kangaroo with only about three meters to go. After a pleasant drive we reached the WA/SA boarder at around 9.45am but once we crossed we had to set our watches forward forty five minutes, so it was now 10.20am. We drove to Eucla where we fueled then continued the Great Australian Bight where we stopped for morning tea while we wandered to the cliff with our cuppa. What a stunning view and it was blowing a gail. We then decided after taking some photos it was time to get back into the cars, “Oh no not the cars” but it was warmer. We continued onto the Nullarbor roadhouse for fuel and lunch, the next stop was Ceduna for a quick fuel stop then we drove through to Streaky Bay at 5.30pm. Greg and I went for a walk once we had unpacked the car. We then met Geoff and June for dinner in the restaurant – very nice meal. We then sat in front of the fire place afterwards with the maps to plan tomorrows journey while we were enjoying coffee and cheese platter. What a very nice and relaxing atmosphere to the end of another lovely day. What a very nice little fishing town.

| Day 26
6 Jun’07 We all had breakfast in the restaurant this morning, then we packed the cars and it was time to leave. No decision on where we were going to stop today, when we get to Pt Augusta we will decide where we would like to stay. It is still very cold this morning. We are still having problems with the car regulator, the battery is over charging and blowing the lights, so when we reach Pt Auguster we will try another auto electrician. First stop is Kimba for fuel and morning tea, then it was onto Pt Auguster. We dropped into an electrician and lucky enough he had a new regulator that would fit our car. Yes we now have lights again without blowing them. We then found a nice little café for lunch. We decided that since the car was fixed we would stop at Clare Valley Country Club for the night. We traveled through the Flinders Rangers, simply lovely country side today. The Clare Valley Country Club was very nice. Once we unpacked the cars we decided to have coffee and sample some of the white port we brought from the Margaret River before we got showered for dinner as it has been quite cool all day. We had a lovely dinner then afterwards it was 9.00pm and we were ready for bed. ![]() |
| Day
27 7 Jun’07 We had a sleep in this morning as we haven’t got far to drive today. We departed the motel at 9.20am and had a look around Clare township. We then drove about 10km to Blyth to visit the Medika Gallery- very nice. We purchased some small prints of Ian Roberts. We then left there and traveled onto Seven Hill Winery where we sampled a little wine, yes another purchase. We also visited the Jim Barry winery and bought a nice bottle of wine. Now into the cars and we drove to Auburn where we found a nice little café for lunch and had a quick look around. We drove through some lovely countryside and we arrived at Weintal Resort Tanunda- the Barossa Valley at 2.30pm. We are now here for the next four nights for the DSOA Nationals which will start tomorrow night. Greg and I went for a drive to have a look around then after a shower we caught up with Geoff and June, and also Alison and Steve from WA for dinner. ![]() |
| Day
28 8 Jun’07 Greg woke early this morning and went to breakfast once he was finished he washed the car. The car must look its best before everyone starts rolling in. I went for a walk to the township and had a look around. I saw Geoff and June having breakfast so I joined them for a coffee and then did a bit of shopping and then walked back. When I returned to Weintal Resort Rob and Norm had arrived, so they greeted and welcomed us all to the Nationals and gave us a lovely gift bag and goodies. A very nice gesture from them and thank you to all. While Rob and Norm were getting them selves organized. Geoff, June, Greg and myself went for a drive to Angus Peak where we bought some treats. We then stopped at Blonde Coffee shop for some lunch, very nice. Geoff and June went to visit the Wolf Blass Winery while Greg and I went back to the resort where Greg could tinker with the car. We also did the meet and greet as cars rolled in from all over the states. After socializing all afternoon there was a cheese and wine tasting organized in the Bar then we all went to dinner afterwards. ![]() |
| Day
29 9 Jun’07 Well we were up early and over to breakfast with everyone, then it was time to polish the cars for a 10.00am depart to show and shine at Saltram Winery. Some of the ladies walked to the farmers market just down the road. The rest of us just wandered around looking at all the cars while they were being judged. There is 45 cars booked in for the week end with additional cars up for the day. After 12.30 it was free time or you could go on an organized run through the Barossa with Rob and Dave, so Greg and I went on the run with 14 other cars. Our first stop was Maggie Beers a gourmet shop and café so we had a pate hamper for lunch and then into the cars and onto Two Hands winery where we did some wine tasting. I didn’t like any of the wines, they were mainly reds. Then onto the Seppelt winery where there was more tasting. Oh and we mustn’t forget the men so we visited the Barossa Brewing Co for tasting and purchases. To finish it off we visited the Illparra winery where you could sample the wine but most of us had coffee and their famous scones. We returned to the rooms around 4.00pm with some more socializing. It was a 6.00pm departure on the bus to Tanunda Club for dinner and a band playing. Greg and I left on the first bus as we had had a big day.

| Day
30 10 Jun’07 7.30am breakfast then at 9.30am assemble for the Sunday tour run. The group was broken up into two or three groups. First we took a run up to the Barossa Pioneer Memorial and what a great view. While most of us were up there looking out we noticed a small group of sports cars driving around lost and who was leading ? and why were they out there ? Oh well, they did manage to regroup with the rest of us once Rob went and found them and brought them to the Collingrove Homestead where we had photos taken and then devonshire tea as well as a guided tour of the homestead. What an exquisite old homestead. Then it was a nice drive to the Swan Reach for lunch and you could sample some wine and what a lovely lunch and great atmosphere. The picnic rugs came out and a very relaxed afternoon. What a great display of our cars. It was late afternoon and time to drive back to the Weintal Resort where we all got ready for dinner. After a few announcements, a lovely meal, raffles, presentations and an auction with great company, it was around 11.00pm and most of us fare welled everyone and headed off to bed.

| Day
31 11 Jun’07 We were all up early to say goodbye to those who had to leave early to head off home. The rest of us then had breakfast then headed off ourselves. A special thank you to all the committee as well as their wives and partners for making the 21st Nationals in the Barossa Valley a very enjoyable and fantastic weekend and I hope to see everyone at the 2008 Nationals in Hervey Bay. Well, its time for Geoff, June, Greg and myself to depart the Barossa and head off to Broken Hill, not long after it started raining and continued until mid afternoon. The country side is very flat with only mountains on the horizon. We stopped at Burra around 11.00am for coffee and pancakes in an Indonesian café- very nice. It’s still very cold, but it is time to get back into the cars and onto Broken Hill. There were a lot of mountains around this old town. We unpacked the cars around 3.30pm then we went for a look around town. Yes we needed a coffee to warm up and then we found somewhere nice for dinner tonight. Broken Hill is a very old town with a lot of history. We went to dinner at the Broken Earth Restaurant, the highest spot over looking the town. Greg and Geoff had kangaroo, June had pork and I had quail, of cause coffee and desert as well. What a beautiful view and lovely meal with good friends. ![]() |
| Day
32 12 Jun’07 Greg went for an early morning walk, and Geoff went to the laundromat. When they returned we went for breakfast at 9.00am. After that it was time to look around Broken Hill. First up we went to the Pro Hart Gallery, then it was onto the Jack Absalom Gallery, both were very good. It was now lunch time so we went back to the information centre to see if there were any tours we could do and to have lunch. After something to eat we decided to continue looking at things as most tour were on other days. We then went to the City Art Gallery where we saw the silver tree, it weighs 8.5kg. Then we were off to the Mineral Art Museum. We decided to go and look at the Miners Memorial and stop for coffee up at The Broken Earth Restaurant as if was a very cold day. After that Geoff and June went to tour some more. Greg took me back to our room for a rest then Greg went for a drive and a walk to the living sculptures. He said they were very interesting. After a big day we decided to walk to the Chinese Restaurant for dinner.

| Day
33 13 Jun’07 We departed Broken Hill at 7.30am a beautiful clear morning, frost on the cars and freezing. We arrived at Wilcannia to fuel up and then we drove out of town to have our coffee. The country side is very flat and bare. For approx the next 300km till we arrived at Gilgandra we saw packs of feral goats every where. They were along the road side, climbing up trees and in the middle of the road. We had to travel on dirt road for a bit as the highway was being re-sealed. We stopped at Cobar for fuel and lunch (I am so over Roadhouse Cafes) then it was onto Warren for another fuel stop before we get to Gilgandra for the night (our last night of our holiday). It was a big day of driving so we had an early dinner at the Serviceman’s Club then into bed at 8.30pm. ![]() |

| Day 34
14 Jun’07 We departed Gilgandra at 7.20am there is ice on the cars and the ground is white with frost. The sun is shining but still very cold. We stopped at Coonabarabin for fuel then another fuel stop at Mooree at 11.25. We pushed onto Goondawindi where we stopped for lunch. The country side is very dry here. We arrived at Gatton at 4.45pm where we stopped for fuel and a short break. We then went outside to say farewell to each other as we would not be stopping before we reached home. Greg and I arrived home at 7.00pm. What a wonderful adventure and all of this was to get the four of us to the Nationals in the Barossa. To catch up with good friends and have good times by all. We have traveled 8645 miles (13,832km) since we left home on the 12 May’07. Both cars are still running well and we are all still good friends, what an achievement. We are now planning our next trip. ![]() |
