1964 Nissan Cedric Special 50 Mark III
.
.

The Cedric Special is a long wheel base version of the 30/31 series, it is 4795mm in length. The extra length is to accomodate the 2825cc 118hp OHV 6cyl. K series engine. It has a different grille and lots of extra chrome work. It also has a different upholstery design.
Continuing Nissan's habit of changing grille designs each year, the 1965 model has a new grille. The 1965 grille has a new emblem in the middle, with a gold Cedric Star surrounded by a chrome ring. To the right of the star there is a one piece Special badge. The side badges on the front guards say Cedric and Special. On the rear guards, near the tail lights, there is a 2800 badge. At the back, on the left side there is a 2800 badge, and on the right it says Cedric Special. The tail lights are the same as the 1965 31 series, with a smaller red section, an amber section in the middle and a clear reversing light on the bottom.
The 1965 model continues to use the K series 2825cc 6 cylinder engine, and was available with a 35 series Borg Warner 3 speed automatic transmission or a 4 speed column change manual transmission.
Production of the 50 Series Cedric Special ended in September 1965. It was replaced by the 150 Series Nissan President.

This Cedric Special really is Special !

Sitting in Nissan's massive Zama Storage Facility is this very special Nissan Cedric Special.
It may look like an average Cedric Special, but this car holds a special place in history, because this is the car that carried the Olympic flame into the stadium for the 1964 Tokyo Olympic Games. It is hard to see in this small photo, but if you look in the back seat you can see an odd looking device, this was the specially built holder that carried the flame.
