NISSAN CEDRIC
30 and 31 SERIES
.
Comparing the different wheelbase lengths of the Cedric.

In an era such as today, when car manufacturers talk about saving money by sharing vehicle platforms between multiple different models, it seems incredible to believe that in the early 1960s Nissan built the Cedric on four completely different wheelbase lengths, all at the same time!
Below is an overview of the different models available in 1963. If you pay close attention to the length of the doors you will see the difference between the models.

.
1963 31 - Cedric Standard
Short front doors, short back doors, short bonnet (hood).
Has a 4490mm long body with 912mm long front doors and 860mm long rear doors.
.
1963 G31 - Cedric Deluxe
Short front doors, long back doors, short bonnet (hood).
Has a 4590mm long body with 912mm long front doors and 958mm long rear doors.
.
1963 H31 - Cedric Custom
Long front doors, long back doors, short bonnet (hood).
Has a 4650mm long body with 972mm long front doors and 958mm long rear doors.
.
1963 50 - Cedric Special
Long front doors, long back doors, long bonnet (hood).
Has a 4795mm long body with 972mm long front doors and 958mm long rear doors.
.
The 50 series Cedric Special was a 6 cylinder version of the H31 Cedric Custom. (All other 30 and 31 series Cedrics had 4 cylinder engines) To accomodate the extra length of the engine, the engine bay was lengthened by 145mm. The extra length can be seen if you look at the distance between the wheelarch opening and the front door on this car compared to the car in the photo above.
.
1963 WP31 - Cedric Wagon
Short front doors, short back doors, short bonnet (hood).
Has a 4590mm long body with 912mm long front doors and 958mm long rear doors.
.
The 8 seater Wagon is actually based on the wheelbase of the base model 31 series sedan. It has the same short front and back doors as the 31, but is actually 100mm longer than the sedan due to the length of the rear overhang.
.
1963 VP31 - Cedric Van
Short front doors, short back doors, short bonnet (hood).
Has a 4590mm long body with 912mm long front doors and 958mm long rear doors.
The Van is essentially the same as the Wagon, except it doesn't have the 3rd row of seats in the back.
